three is a nice number and as a pretty common saying tells us, it is good! well, we will see but we surely hope so.
a year ago we had heavy financial struggles, we called for help, and you all came by, watched theatre pieces, attended performances, danced to bands and lost yourselves in a long ravey. we enjoyed moments at zw together or alone, that fills our hearts with joy and make us keep our drive.
a year later, here we are: still on very fragile financial legs, facing smear campaigns from the right, still empty in between, still working for little money to try to make everything as accessible as possible, although prices still might seem high, we are altogether just still struggling sometimes. arts, music and culture in general is hard to keep afloat.
but again, here we are: zw keeps on running! people from near and far engaging in projects in and around these spaces, helping each other out all in all. organizing ourselves with little means and fuller hearts trying to approach politics, culture, arts and music with compassion and contentment and saying what we want to say.
zurich can be a cold, prude and ignorant city. and it will be even colder in november, but we have plenty of reasons to celebrate 3 years of zw and what we do with it for another 3 years and more and more and more!
this year, our festival will reflect what we have done this year. it will be poetic, delicious, fun and loud. The program will be announced gradually in the next weeks. normal tickets will be release on october 20th.

Tuesday with Aja Monet & the Anouchka Gwen Experience
aja monet
aja monet is a surrealist blues poet, a musician of the subversive imagination, a truth telling magician and an inexhaustible activist.
On her debut album «When the poems do what they do», we glimpse her indefatigable commitment to speak. The thematic origins of this album center around Black resistance, love and the inexhaustible quest for joy.
As poet and musician of Caribbean descent and American dissent, Monet understands poems as life force, expressed and animated through breath, body, memory, experience, imagination, spirits and ancestors.
The Anouchka Gwen Experience (support)
Anouchka Gwen (*1997) is a swiss born and raised singer-songwriter and bass player currently based in Zurich, Switzerland.
The vulnerability, complexities and emotions that life brings are her main inspirations. With her dreamy and bassy voice, she aims to voice her deepest and most honest thoughts and unapologetically takes space. As an artist with congolese roots, she’s influenced and inspired by repetitive, soulful and rhythmic melodies and mixes it with her love for electronic psychedelic wide pop infused soundscapes.
Since December 2023, Anouchka Gwen has been on a concert hiatus, but for this extraordinary event, she gathered wonderful artists and friends, who will make this experience one to remember:
Angel (*1994) is a swiss musician seen on various instruments in bands like Nelly Schweiz or Kush K. Angel loves to explore the intersection of song and improvisation by pushing the edges of structure and norm, time and form.
Bérénice Awa (*1998) is a swiss percussionist and composer of senegalese heritage. West african rhythms and melodies have been present throughout her childhood, shaping the foundation of her musical journey - as a dancer, a listener, a lover of music, and ultimately, as a musician.
Pascal Eugster (*1992) is a swiss musician and bass player. Since the age of 11, Pascal has been passionate about the instrument and loves finding new ways to convey his feelings through it. He has played in bands like Alois and Kush K, and is currently focused on playing with the indie folk band Black Sea Dahu.
WEDNESDAY - FOOD EVENT & PODIUM
ZW Plenum
Many say ZW is subsidised, ‘sponsored by the city’ - lets clear that out for once: within the public announcement of the 1000qm2 we now call ZW was a renovation contribution of 500’000.-. The renovation had to fulfil all regulations applying to restaurants, bars and clubs. An immense amount of cheap or free labour was organised, a lot of cheap material was reused to achieve a legally sound renovation. On top of that and after receiving the approval, the association Zentralwäscherei made clear that we can only fulfil the usage agreement, if we do not have to pay rent. The usage agreement states that these rooms have to run un-commercially. Sustaining an un-commercial cultural space without sponsoring from brands or banks is a really difficult task. Especially if you want a lot, like ZW does: good employment, equal payment, affordable entrance and gastronomy, extensive opening hours and a program focusing more on empowerment, access and equity over revenue. ZW finances itself to 85%, compared to traditional and more established spaces with a much smaller degree of self-financing. Overall we believe ZW is a big success. It provides a space for cultural engagement on all levels of professionality, it provides people with a workplace, it is a hub to meet and celebrate, to cry, be angry, get organised and multiply.
Our first ZW Plenum; The evening will be launched by a ZW plenum where we talk about our programming process and the challenges of self-organised spaces.
17:00 - Presentation of ZW Programm
19:00 - Challenges of self-organised spaces - Podium Discussion

Thursday - Picnic Night
AQUA:TOFANA
AQUA:TOFANA is no longer an unknown figure in the local rap scene - with uncompromisingly provocative and nasty lines, AQUA:TOFANA has already made it onto “Bounce” SRF and SRF Kulturplatz. Queer-feminist rap against the patriarchy, against toxic masculinity and for fluidity in gender expression. AQUA:TOFANA has found a way to be activist through music. This is how the feminist art figure, AQUA:TOFANA, came into being. A figure that gets attention and can be activist without exposing the person behind the mask. On June 14, 2024, AQUA:TOFANA released her debut EP “giftig” with the hit singles “FLÜSSIG”, “NÜMM” and six other introspective, activist, honest tracks. In fall 2024, AQUA:TOFANA will embark on their first mini-tour through Switzerland and, judging by their latest Instagram post, it could also be their last...
Visit AQUA:TOFANA's official websiteEtoclit
Etoclit is a rap crew from Bern, consisting of five TINFA* people who perform in a wide variety of combinations. Between old school flows and hard 808s, they bring their thoughts, feelings and life experiences to the beat and remain energetic, questioning, thoughtful, provocative, determined, ugly, edgy, painful, searching, driving, bubbly, flowing.
Visit Etoclit's official websiteKumari
your local brown babe on the decks! From breaks to jersey club, dembow to garage, Kumari creates a truly original blend of rhythms. With a smooth fusion, every genre finds its groove in her sets, creating a vibe that is impossible to resist. Kumari is not only a DJ, but also organizes queer and BIPOC parties with her collective STFU and is known for her rap-singing duo Landjäger:innen.

It's all about being together and enjoying...
KW will remain closed on this evening and we will enjoy the evening in the hall, eating, drinking, listening and watching.
Enis Maci & Pascal Richmann
PANDO. Reading & material show
with Enis Maci & Pascal Richmann
The world is fucked up, but Hans and Reja love each other. They set off together. They encounter hollowed-out landscapes, contradictory founding myths and stories that span the globe. A Mormon searches for the treasure of Moctezuma in the Utah desert. A murderous pharmacist builds a slide through his house. A filmmaker chases a fugitive burglar. And meanwhile, the wind rushes undisturbed through Pando, the largest living creature in the world, as it did 40,000 years ago.
Enis Maci and Pascal Richmann tell of places that inscribe themselves in your memory long before you set foot in them. About the maelstrom of events that tugs at us all. Always asking the question: How does the present come about and what can we do to counter it?
Paranoia City
Paranoia City is a bookshop and is organized as a cooperative. We are booksellers without academic access to literature and without any claim to omniscience, but with a claim to constant personal and collective development, education and vigilance.
We are here to provide the cozy store with information and to make a contribution to social justice through the power of literature. Because education, we agree, is one of the most powerful tools.
For ZW's Great Picknick, Paranoia City is bringing a selection of books that can be purchased on site.
Duo Rimini
Duo Rimini is an ode to Italian love songs. Sophie Aeberli's piano skills meet Maria Rebecca Sautter's love of Italian songs - a captivating combination that makes us think Lake Zurich is the Mediterranean for at least a moment.
Friday
Brigade Brut
Brigade Brut is a pro-wrestling group from Lucerne, known for their fierce matches and talented wrestlers.

Baby Vouithu
baby vouithu fuses diverse influences from rap, electro, breakbeats, techno, jungle, footwork, and bass music into a dirty, ravy, and unapologetically sonic experience.
while hip hop has predominately shaped his references, he is most interested in challenging the boundaries of electronic music and bringing the different influences together.
always explicit and with love for the underground
janaína and djadjamai
janaína and djadjamai are not only serving you hot afro-centric sounds mixed with influences of brazilian funk. they’re also serving cuteness!! after almost 2 years behind the decks as a duo they still surprise with their spontaneous selection and at the same time throw you back to the back seat as a kid in the car, with your parent(s) listening to dancehall and reggae classics.

Naomi Klaus
The first time I went for a walk in the royal gardens and I arrived in front of the Japanese tower, I wasn't walking in Asia but in the capricious madness of the king who wanted to build a piece of Japan all for himself.” — Naomie Klaus
Naomie Klaus offers us a little tale about the artificial paradises of globalization, a melancholic stroll through the exotic relics of free trade, where appearances matter more than knowledge. Here, geishas eat fries, Europeans confuse Tokyo and Beijing, tribal ceremonies start with drum rolls and everything can be bought – even Covid...
Originally the route was to start from the Chinese Pavilion and lead to the Japanese Tower, but as the latter is only open to the public in the spring, the route will lead to the Heysel Exhibition Center. A new map will be released when the Royal Gardens are open to the public.
Konstant

Kuba97
Ever in search of the trance dance experience, Kuba '97 turns crowds into tribes with deep hypnotic sounds. Energy flows in and out of bodies, with frequencies encouraging introspection and a sense of togetherness on the dance floor.
The trance dance experience is characterized by the sounds of contemporary psychedelia and '90s tribalistic techno. Never-ending spiraling grooves are accompanied by dreamlike shamanistic chimes.
Passionate about the development and importance of a city's nightlife, Kuba '97 is heavily involved in Horst, nacht, Stelplaats and many more. Kuba '97 doesn't only hang around at parties and DJ booths; you can also find him behind the stove, cooking up non-musical goodness, and writing articles for Not So Difficult magazine.
DJ Rino
A true worshiper of house music blessed with a certain ravy and techno spirit, Dj Rino loves to pick out random records that most of us would probably leave in their dusty corners. Music is a main component in Rino’s life, whether he is listening or playing, it fills the silence, connecting him to the present moment and the people around him. Rino’s sets are long, joyful and filled to the brim with energy, breaking boundaries between categories and proving the interconnection between each and every electronic genre.
Eli Verveine
Eli Verveine is a DJ, live artist and producer at the height of her powers.
As a DJ, Eli Verveine is widely respected for her ability to build her own dancefloor
wherever she is in the world. Always engaged with the crowd, Eli sees communication
as integral to the art of DJing: whether it’s warm-up, peak-time or after-hours, she
captures the collective energy and applies just the right doses of drama and restraint
until every dancer is locked into a unified groove. Eli’s versatile blend of genres and
moods has brought her to some of the most iconic stages around, from the clubs
Bassiani, Panoramabar, Fabric and Closer to the festivals Garbicz, Rainbow Disco
Club, Waking Life, and delivering the prestigious closing set at Organik Festival in
Taiwan. She has a B2B project, Among Trees, with Andrey Pushkarev.
Vera
Veras timeless music selection, a subtle mixing style and her authentic, elegant appearance behind the
decks impressed clubbers and promoters all around the globe.
Constantly evolving and picking up impulses, she follows her intuition rather then trends and she keeps
surprising with unexpected sets, that have an unpretentious, female touch.
Veras media are her vinyls, that she’s choosing from a decent record collection. For her it’s all about the
story a dj is telling and the ambience being created, not about genres or playing one big tune after the
other. Each gig she prepares passionately, trying to imagine and select the right music for each place she's
visiting.
Her roots reach back to the golden age of techno and house - the early 90’s.
Over a decade of experience behind the decks turned her into a routined DJ, that is booked in numerous
places all over the world.
At the same time though, she’s still a insiders’ tip to many.
