Sassy J is a DJ, curator and multi-disciplinary artist with a bold and wide-ranging vision, informed by two decades at the helm of her iconic night Patchwork. Much loved by music heads around the globe, she brings her innate creative sense to every immersive set, and that intuitive creativity is likewise expressed through each one of her cult compilations and dynamic, colour-saturated textile artworks. A signature of Sassy J’s work is the unique way she collages rare record store finds and exclusive unreleased tunes from friends and collaborators, juxtaposing them in ways that reveal myriad shades of emotion in the music. She brings dancers along on an otherworldly musical journey that transcends genre, weaving hypnotic analogue hymns together with raw grooves and swirling melodic meteor showers.

Sassy J has brought her singular sound to clubnights and festivals ranging from the storied Co-op nights at Plastic People in the mid-2000s to Dekmantel, Panorama Bar or Rainbow Disco Club Japan. Her passionate dedication to the community and culture of music is evident in the innovative compilations she has curated, such as her TTT Cassette for The Trilogy Tapes (2014), her 2019 Patchwork compilation (2019) and 7” sampler (2025) on on Rush Hour, and a critically-tipped cassette that became a double vinyl compilation, A Sanctuary (2025), on her own Patchwork label.

Sassy J grew up in a musical household where living room performances by jazz greats and family friends, such as the incredible American tenor saxophone player and composer Clifford Jordan, were a frequent occurrence. Sassy J became fascinated by the soaring heights and mysterious counterpoints of music, and developed an expert ear, finely attuned to the patterns and kaleidoscopic harmonies that she weaves together in her light-filled sets.

Similarly to how she unearths vibrant new music and explores its sensorial textures as a DJ, as an artist Sassy J transforms fabrics into hangings and wearable pieces. Her artworks have been featured in an exhibition at Landesmuseum Zurich, as well as in showcases at Milan’s Aint Studio and Melbourne’s High Note. Her ability to combine beautiful elements to unique effect can be seen and heard across all of her creative outlets. In Sassy J’s hands, music transports dancers to distant planets via octagonal grooves, soulful chord changes and deep syncopated rhythms, uniting an international family of music lovers distinctly in the now.
