Die jüngste Begriffsgeschichte des „Spiralling“ kann von Tools „Lateralus“ via Trent Reznors „The Downward Spiral“ bis Juliana Huxtables exzessivem Begriffsgebrauch & dessen -erweiterung nachgezeichnet werden. So wurde das „spiralling“ nebst der Konnotation eines sich stetig verschlechternden Systems oder einer worsening Situation um die Perspektive der sich neu eröffnenden Denk- und Erforschungsräumen erweitert.
