SONIC MATTER ist eine internationale Plattform für aktuelle experimentelle Musik und spartenübergreifende Formen klangbezogener Kunst. 2021 zum Leben erwacht, bietet sie ein wachsendes Forum für die vielfältigen Spielarten, in denen klingende Kunst eigenständig, als verbindendes Element mit anderen Disziplinen und als Medium für gesellschaftlichen Austausch agiert. Kernstück der Plattform ist das SONIC MATTER Festival, das an vier Tagen in den Wintermonaten durch wechselnde Orte in Zürich zieht.

Jede Festivalausgabe von SONIC MATTER gibt sich ein Thema, das eine offene Bewegung beschreibt und Räume für Spekulationen schafft. Es leitet die Programmgestaltung nicht als eingrenzende inhaltliche Setzungen; vielmehr beschreiben sie assoziative Denkbewegungen, die Raum bieten für akute Fragestellungen der Gegenwart, die von Künstler:innen und Publikum gemeinsam über längere Zeiträume verhandelt werden. Die Themensetzung bildet unseren Anspruch ab, einen Nährboden für die Wechselwirkung von künstlerischen Prozessen mit den Entwicklungen ihrer Umwelt zu bieten. 2026 steht unter dem Motto «Drift». Es lebt von Veränderungen und Bewegung, fordert auf zum Mitmachen und zielt auf ein offenes Ende.

Preispolitik:
Unser Festival nutzt drei Wahlpreise: Standard, reduziert und Soli. Mit dem höchsten Preis, dem Soli-Preis, wird der Ausgleich für eine Person geschaffen, die sich den Standardpreis nicht leisten kann. Damit kann das Festival für alle zugänglich und gleichzeitig fair finanziert sein. Der vierte, der tiefste Preis ist für alle mit mit einem Nachweis: AHV / IV / Personen bis 18 Jahre / Schüler:innen, Auszubildende und Studierende bis und mit 30 Jahre / KulturLegi. Den entsprechenden Nachweis resp. Ausweis zum Einlass mitbringen!

SONIC MATTER is an international platform for contemporary experimental music and interdisciplinary forms of sound-related art. Launched in 2021, it offers a growing forum for the diverse ways in which sound art acts independently, as a connecting element with other disciplines, and as a medium for social exchange. At the heart of the platform is the SONIC MATTER Festival, which takes place over four days in the winter months at various locations in Zurich.

Each edition of the SONIC MATTER festival has a theme that describes an open movement and creates space for speculation. It does not guide the program design as a limiting set of content; rather, it describes associative trains of thought that provide space for acute questions of the present, which are negotiated jointly by artists and audiences over longer periods of time. The theme reflects our aspiration to provide a breeding ground for the interaction of artistic processes with developments in their environment. The motto for 2026 is “Drift.” It thrives on change and movement, encourages participation, and aims for an open ending.

Price Policy:
Our festival offers three pricing options: standard, reduced and solidarity. With the highest price, the solidarity price, you help to compensate for someone who cannot afford the standard price. This ensures that the festival is accessible to everyone and at the same time fairly financed. The fourth, lowest price is available to anyone with proof of eligibility: OASI / DI / people up to 18 years / pupils, trainees, and students up to and including 30 years / KulturLegi. Please present the relevant ID at the entrance.
