Real Farmer / Zoomies @hirscheneck

DIY art punk outliers Real Farmer released their barnstorming anti-war single, Big Stepper, through Pete Doherty's label Strap Originals on 26th March. Big Stepper is lifted from their new four track EP - RF II - which was released on 12” vinyl and download on 2nd May 2025.

The new single coincided with the band's first ever UK headline tour in March and April. Further shows in 2025 for the fast-rising band from the North Dutch city of Groningen included: Primavera Sound Barcelona, The Great Escape, Come Together (w/ Kings of Leon) and The Libertines festival at Gunnersbury Park.

Real Farmer say of Big Stepper: "We live in a time when the number of countries in conflict is the highest since WWII. Big Stepper is about the global rise of the far-right and with it the dangers of extremism and patriotism. It’s about how young men and women are being seduced by their governments to join the army, convinced that this will help them combat their feelings of hopelessness and enhance their chances for a better future, but often it has the opposite effect, leaving them traumatised and forlorn."

RF II was produced by Niek Van Den Driesschen and recorded at Far Out Sound Studios in Rotterdam. If you weren't born when the MC5, the Stooges or Pixies were kicking out the jams, make Real Farmer your new jam.

Real Farmer are: Leon Harms (drums) (also Personal Trainer), Jeroen Klootsema (vocals), Marrit Meinema (bass, backing vocals) (also The Klittens and Lewsberg) and Peter van der Ploeg (guitar, backing vocals).

Die Geschichte der Americana in Leipzig ist schnell erzählt. Erst kam lange nix, und dann
endlich die Zoomies.
Wobei die Zoomies - dem Herzensprojekt des Musikers Maxim Tschernych - auf dem
Debüt-Tape "Carbonated Soft Drinks" aus dem Jahre 2023 noch klangen wie eine Tüte
New-Wave-Gemischtes zwischen Jack J., Bowie oder Ween.
Aber nun endlich die folgerichtige, die Pop-Historie auf VHS-Tape rückwärts spulende, leicht
verrauschte Hinwendung zur Americana, genauer gesagt zum rock-poppigen Teil, wo
Country oder Folk keine Schimpfwörter sind, wo Harry Nilsson einst seine Songs dichtete,
wo Alex G heute lebt und von wo aus auch MJ Lendermann ein Liedchen singen kann. Hier
treiben sich also auch die Zoomies herum. Wobei es die Zoomies live als 5-köpfige Band
aber auch als Solo-Show gibt. Je nach Anlass. Im Wahrheit sind die Zoomies eben die
Protagonisten in den Songs von Maxim Tschernych.
Das Album ist für den April 2026 auf dem Berliner staatsakt geplant. Die Vorfreude könnte
grösser nicht sein.
