ZW FOUREVER

FOUREVER ZW!

All good things come in four we say in swiss-german. Or something like that, whatever. We feel like it is good at the moment. And it will be fourever. What‘s to come and what to foursee is difficult but we know now it will be something. You showed us that once again!
Zurich wants a place that is not fuelled by corporate money, financial interests and inhumane business plans, we don’t want to divide and concur, we want to get together and get lost. Zurich can be a cold and harsh city like we once said, but it is also full of life, full of curious, funny and loving beings looking for alternatives to the narrative of cleanliness and performance. Google what, google where, we say! We want to drink up the last drops of Zwinglianism and dance on the pieces of Zurich’s neoliberal walls, spaces to the people and culture however we want it, four you four me four us four now and four ever!

fourever ZW is our fourth anniversary. ZW opened up officially in 2021, celebrating this occasion every year at the same time.
The festival runs from Tuesday to Sunday, each day is composed a bit differently, reflecting ZW's broad cultural interest and vision.

Tuesday is concert time,
Wednesday we eat together,
Thursday we listen and watch various performing arts,
Friday we go wild for the first time
and Saturday we go even wilder.

Long Weekend Pass and early bird tickets are for the Thursday, Friday and Saturday only.
People with Status S/N/F, Sans-papier can get free tickets at the box office.

ZW is best reached by public transport, the closest Tram and Bus Station is Schiffbau and closest train reaches station Hardbrücke.
We do not have public parking options.
The venue is accessible with wheel chairs.
During every day of the festival fog machines will be used. Strobe and other flashy lights might be used as well most probably Tuesday (Halle), Friday (Halle) and Saturday (BR).
ZW has an awareness concept and a trained awareness team present Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Tuesday with james K & Casanora

Kulturraum Zentralwäscherei GROSSE HALLE

james K

On Tuesday, we dream together as we start off the week with the most beautiful sonic experience we could have wished.

A version of james K was born. Comprised of bones, reactive metals and a larynx with freckled eyes that catalyzes that mix, she can now see through all the schemes. This is the truth. When she chews gum, it’s not clear which one of her personas does it. Since their first release in 2013, describing them separately is grunt work as they switch places, cosplay each other and would most likely lull you into a lonesome dream. Together, they know how to produce, sound, film and edit. Thus, they are brought to the table, performing and DJing in clubs and theaters, along composers and children alike. She has performed in festivals and venues such as Dekmantel, Sustain Release, Mutek, iii Points, and Nowadays.. In recent years she has shared the stage with James Ferraro, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Yves Tumor, Morton Subotnick, Nick Leon, and Priori, among many others.

She has released with labels such as AD 93, Incienso, PAN, iDEAL, Dial, UNO, among others, and started her label She Rocks! in 2015. Her collaboration with hoodie, a 10” titled ‘Scorpio,’ was released in summer 2023 via AD 93, landing on numerous EOTY lists. She followed up with another single, trip-hop gem, ‘Blinkmoth (July Mix),’ which has garnered similar attention, landing at number 2 on Resident Advisor’s ‘Best Tracks of 2024,’ and numerous other EOY lists, the former publication naming her producer of the year. K has been a resident on NTS, with her show, ‘Trip Lick,’ since 2019, and she has provided mix’s for series such as Dekmantel, Crack and Fact. She is sought after for her signature magnetic vocals, lyricism and production and, through collaborations, has created critically acclaimed music with artists such as Moin, Fergus Jones + Huerco S., Priori, Special Guest DJ, Yves Tumor, Drew McDowall, LEYA, and many others. She produces music that makes temporary haven for indomitable lyrics – and these are in constant flux. You can check what they are here: [917908-1173]. It’s only a part of her fairly detailed world. A world that she abandons and then builds upon.

Sometimes you can’t hear the words......since anything beyond everything she wants to give you a hint......it’s not pretty (but it’s pretty).
Take a sip of water before your memory error blinks. Dial to K. Listen to the disfragmented territory and the cast of it she’s making. It might not be what you will have thought tomorrow.

a𝓈𝓀 𝓂𝑒 𝒶𝒷𝑜𝓊𝓉 𝓂𝓎 𝒹𝓇𝑒𝒶𝓂𝓈.

You leave her a voicemail and everyone hears it. A version of james K slides through the valueless material “real” with fists full of melancholic ecstasy. Song collapses the unending mist around us, in a world of intensity and pain, confusion and loss, like a lung filling playfully, that makes us more sensitive, opens more wounds, to lay a path for mutual mending. She plucks a coiling, gaseous halo from the air, steadying the tempest with lulling, heaven-kissed sounds, and comes as a balm to our desperate hearts with her timeless offering, 𝘍𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥- to make some light of this gum pink fog.

Casanora

Casanora, an acclaimed sound designer and multimedia artist, has garnered attention for her award-winning music. With a Bachelor in Sound Arts and a Master in Contemporary Arts Practice, her work has caught the eye of prominent media including Mixmag, Crack Mag, and BBC6.
Casanora is a sound designer and multimedia artist. She has a Bachelor in Sound Arts and a Master in Contemporary Arts Practice. In 2020 she won the Demotape Clinic Award at the M4Music Festival in Zurich and in 2021 she received a prize from Musikförderung Bern for her track ‘No Surprise’. During her cultural scholarship in Berlin 2022, she released her third and most recent EP ‘Electric Water’ during a six-month stay abroad. The mentions in numerous specialised media : Mixmag, Crack Mag, Dazed, BBC6,

Rai3, Radio 3 Fach, Groove, Zweikommasieben, SRF 3 best of Sounds, RadioX and many more. Plus the subsequent tour across Switzerland have once again given Casanora the energy to continue her musical work.
Casanora's music can be described as a mixture of soft, melodious sounds and profound, often emotional lyrics. Their music is in the indie pop and alternative genres, with a touch of electronic and experimental elements. The sound is atmospheric and inviting, often infusing a certain melancholy and introspective mood into her songs. Her music often addresses topics such as relationships, self-reflection and life, but in a very soulful and creative way.

Casanora invites listeners into fluid worlds with her new EP, ‘The Year of the Jellyfish.’ This collection dives deep, presenting sounds that swim, float, and flow, inspired by the breezes of Puglia and the warmth of the Mediterranean. Through a calming exploration,
the EP captures the serene dance of jellyfish, inviting us to drift and discover beauty away from fast tempos.

With ‘The Year of the Jellyfish,’ Casanora creates a tranquil atmosphere amidst chaos, encouraging moments of reflection as thoughts wash ashore. This seven-track EP serves as an ode to freedom and the vastness of the sea. The soundscape vibrates between realms, transporting listeners through calming tunes like ‘Floating Clouds’ and more energetic offerings like ‘New Sun.’ The music ebbs and flows, balancing relaxation with energy, provoking both nostalgia and awakening. Casanora, a gifted sound designer, blends melancholic melodies with playful rhythms, crafting an experience that resonates deeply. Each track is an invitation to lose and find oneself simultaneously.

Poetik P - Pluriverse of pussibilities

The POETiK P team creates a sensual performance – a dedication to their pulsating bodies, a celebration of poetic demands, indeed: a protest song for sexual self-determination! The pearl represents material, metaphor and motto: delicate and desirable like the clitoris, yet strong enough to weave itself into a resilient network. In this way, different perspectives are linked and form a self-determined language of sexualities. Through dance and spoken word, a space is created – the pluriverse of pussybilities – reminiscent of a feminist strip club and inviting the audience to become part of it.

Initiated by Donya Speaks, POETiK P has been working and researching in various formats in Switzerland and Rwanda since 2022. The artists – Aline Amike, Soukey, Nina Balmer, Souzy Muisha, Natacha Muziramakenga, Julia Urech, Nina Jaun, Eulalie Déguénon and Donya Speaks – live and work between Bern, Zurich, Kigali and Goma. They question Euro-patriarchal narratives about their sexuality(ies) and seek to understand and transform them in a cultural-historical context. How can one find (or reinvent) one's own language? What does it take to be transnational and feminist?

Sex is good (but have you tried?)

Understanding the difficulties on speaking about sex, Katya Vavrynchuk and Zora Rohr gather in Pluto to create an easy, comfortable atmosphere, which allows uncertainty and vulnerability to take place.

As we hope for a better future with sex education in it, we understand, that t a l k I n g helps. We believe that bringing up sex talks to people’s ears and faces, popularising and normalizing this practice, will break the cranky stigmas around this topic.

We aren’t sex experts (except that we all love to have sex), but we believe, that to contribute to breaking the stigmas you don’t necessarily need to be one. In fact, we all are experts, of our own sex journeys. A few topics for a discussion will be chosen based on the public survey.

This is a hybrid on-spot event taking place in Pluto, at the same time transmitted online on the Pluto Radio.

Trax Kurier from Format Records Zurich

Listening session from 16 until 18h during the Flohmi

Four years ago, it all began with an old, fire-red firefighter bus that he transformed into a traveling record shop with his own hands. What started as a crazy, heart-driven idea quickly turned into something bigger: now, in the third year of running his own record store in Zurich, Matteo shares his passion for music and vinyl with a growing community of like-minded souls.

A tour of the ZWZ with the Raumbörse

What is ZW ? What is ZWZ ? What is the Josef-Areal ?
A tour of the Zwischennutzung with the Raumbörse

The temporary use of the former Zentralwäscherei facility is to be extended until 2035. If the final funds of use of the areal will be submitted to voters later this year, the temporary use of the space was reconducted last month by the City Council.

ZW is part of ZWZ, and we know that this is confusing sometimes. Our Verein, Zentralwäschrei, is an alternative cultural center at the Ground Floor of the ZWZ. It has a restaurant/bar, and two other rooms that offer a diverse program, but the ZWZ building does not stop at ZW, and many other associations and creatives are also in the building.

So, what does this Zwischennutzung actually entail? Raumbörse, which is the organ of the city that oversees the areal, will give a tour through the building through exciting studios such as the Bitwäscherei, Recreazz, and many more.

Meeting at 16:00 next to the bar in the Kleinwäscherei (restaurant)

None Of Them

Michal Holy and Zainab Lascandri known as the music duo None Of Them have created their own brand in their twelve years of working together. After releasing four albums, numerous music videos, and live concerts, None Of Them is back on the scene following a break from releasing music. 'Ghettotape' is their new musical series with a lot of attitude and a clear stance in the context of their worldviews. Ghettotape is a tribute to their musical sources of knowledge, from which they draw their inspiration and skills. It's a dynamic universe rooted in various DIY and subcultures. None Of Them's music continues to emancipate itself from categories and their boundaries.

None Of Them

ECHT!

The Brussels-based quartet thrives on precision and chemistry: four minds and eight hands working as one. Their instrumental music raises more questions than it answers, pulling listeners into hypnotic, trance-like states where rhythm and melody merge, making individual instruments almost unrecognizable. After their groundbreaking debut EP Douf (2019) and acclaimed albums INWANE (2021) and Sink-Along (2023), ECHT! is back with their most daring release yet: Boilerism. On this new record, they push beyond their signature bass-heavy sound, exploring faster tempos and embracing genres like acid, drum’n’bass, footwork, and UK garage. While the grooves hit harder and the rhythms get more mechanical, their flair for the unpredictable remains, with tracks that twist, turn, and surprise at every moment. Boilerism is both a celebration and a reinvention — an ode to club culture, to the energy of live music, and to the thrill of experimentation.

Real-time Electronics & Acoustic Piano by Martin Reck and Olivia Zaugg

Ako Amo is a Swiss Duo founded in 2022.
By reducing and contouring melodic molecules and modulating the perception of time, the duo arrives at an aesthetic of guided slowness.

Martin Reck is an electronic musician, singer-songwriter and composer. His works combine influences from acousmatic, pop and club into narrative-driven music of a magical realism.

Olivia Zaugg’s work leads to various areas of the music world – as a classical Lied pianist, as a singer and accordionist, composer, choir accompanist, pedagogue, in interdisciplinary collaborations or research of new concert formats.
